Biggest St. Pat’s of the Netherlands back in The Hague

Algemeen

Friday March 17th The Hague goes green with live music & dancing from Grote Markt to Omniversum

Friday March 17th, the largest St Patrick’s Day festival in the Netherlands is back with Irish dancing school performances, Irish bands and tens of thousands of green-clad merry makers – both Irish and ‘Irish for a day’. The Hague celebrates big throughout the city from the Grote Markt to the Atrium, the Omniversum and in O’Caseys Irish pub. Entrance to the festivities is free.

As the country’s number one expat city, The Hague has a large, active Irish community. This makes the festival an outspoken, truly Irish happening. Irish Club Netherlands, Ireland Tourism, Grote Markt The Hague and Irish pub O’Caseys team up for the St. Patrick’s Day festival. This year, the thousands of visitors who flock to The Hague for the party can look forward to shows by Irish folk artists Sharon Shannon, The Kings of Connaught and Among The Saints, a photo exhibition in the Atrium, a film screening in the Omniversum & dance performances by the best Irish dance schools in Europe. In the Boterwaag and O’Casey’s the party goes on till the wee hours.

The program starts at 16:30 at the green, white and orange adorned Grote Markt with the first dance performance. A large outdoor stage will be set up here and there will be plenty to do in the surrounding cafes. The rest of the afternoon and evening, both on the Grote Markt and in O’Casey’s at Noordeinde, the party continues with live music and dance performances. A word of warning for those visiting the festival for the first time: wear green or run the risk of being pinched by leprechauns!
