New Wheels for Fietsmaatjes Wassenaar
AlgemeenThe group responsible for many of the duo-bikes riding around the area with smiling riders just added a new bike to the fleet to meet a growing demand. Housed in a discreet shed, the new model e-bike is installed at the Van Ommerenpark service residence. Volunteers of the Fietsmaatjes Wassenaar branch of this nation-wide initiative continue to bring the joy of a bike ride to the “guest” community.

This latest addition was unveiled in a small on-site celebration. Board chair Ellen Klompé welcomed the small group of residents, volunteers, caregivers, and some potential new guests and thanked the sponsors and the Van Ommerenpark management who made it possible. She was followed by Bart Carpentier Alting who had provided support behind the scenes. He lauded the successful initiative and expressed confidence that even guests would sign up. After the mini-celebration one of the residents was joined by a Fietsmaatjes volunteer to ride the new duofiets over to the outdoor terrace for coffee and cake emblazoned with the logo of the volunteer group. The Landgoederoute that passes next to the Ommerenpark location is but one of the many routes that volunteers and guests enjoy in the area. Some prefer Meijendel and the dunes, others a jaunt over to Katwijk and back, and a few mentioned enjoyable rides around the nearby De Horsten.
Fietsmaatjes Wassenaar has made a successful imprint on the local community, fueled by enthusiastic volunteers and guests who thrive on the opportunity to take in the surroundings and the fresh air with the support of their bike-buddies.
